Garden

Since our lovely "test plant" palm has survived for over 6 months, we decided to take it up a notch and try our luck at a porch garden. Sure we can keep something alive, but can we actually help something grow?

Parenting Test 2

We needed something to weigh down the pots and help with drainage, so we took a look around for some rocks.  Unfortunately we didn't really know where to find any, so we "borrowed" some from our apartment complex grounds.

We then went and got some nice rich soil from the store. Not really knowing anything about soil, we just grabbed a bag that had fruits and vegetables on it, figuring it would do the trick. It was only after we got home that we noticed the large sign that said "not for containers."

We headed back to Home Depot and this time looked more carefully at what we were buying. Note to self: always read the label. By the time we got back it was dark, but that didn't deter us from planting.

Several days later and HUZZAH, we had sprouts.

We got some strawberry plants that were partially grown. They seem to be doing well.

Michael's dad also got us some blueberry bushes; they are more high maintenance. The leaves aren't supposed to be red, we found out they need acidic soils. We're working on it (vinegar and water didn't work).
