Michael surprised me by being off work for President's Day, it was a wonderful surprise. I was able to chuck aside my long list of things to do and instead we went geocaching! The geocaching website showed a couple of good caches on the West side of Penasquitos reserve, little did I know that this is the same preserve that Michael and I spent hours wandering around looking for a waterfall (that we had apparently passed within the first 30 minutes of our hike). There's nothing like a few hour journey ending with aching feet, dark scary spider infested trails, and no waterfall to help you know the man standing next to you is the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. I was glad our second trip was a little more successful.
WARNING: Geocache spoilers below
We were able to find 3/5 of the caches we set out for, which was pretty good considering the amount of geomuggles that were looming around. We had to give up on one because as we got closer to where it was supposed to be we looked at the ground and it was covered in spiders...and I mean covered. <Shiver>
The first one we found was super easy, it was on a sign by this superbly built bridge. Seriously? I'm no expert at building bridges, but it looks as though this bridge broke off from a walkway and floated downstream. I was surprised when it turned out to be pretty sturdy, despite the permanent slant.
Michael found the second one in this bush.
The last one was by a giant tree in the middle of nowhere. We figured it would be pretty simple considering how easy it was to find the tree...but it was not so. After a few long minutes of searching (Michael had been looking in every tree hollow, knot, and crevice) we were beginning to lose hope. It was then that I looked down at my feet and kicked over a piece of wood. Lo and behold, there lay the cache. I almost wanted to just cover it up and pretend I never found it...just to see what Michael would do.
This post inspired me to get on Wikipedia - I think I just un-geomuggled myself...or do I have to actually play to be worthy? Some day...when it's above freezing :)
