(Michael) Although Thomas is still fairly young, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to take him camping with his LA cousins. We drove up with my dad and did our usual pineapple upside down cake carbeque. It's always fun to explain the concept to others.
The biggest attraction of the camp seemed to be the pond with turtles and fish. Thomas really just wanted to spend the entire time standing uncomfortably close to the water.
My brother Robert was the hit of the evening in the tent. Not only did he read a elaborate Grimm fairy tale, but he did it in a british accent, which had everyone giggling. We were in his giant tent and it was full of kids. There was a large period of time where it was a whack-a-mole situation with kids taking turns going crazy.
Next morning, Thomas had a quick breakfast and then was back at the pond. I was able to pry him away to take him on a little hike. He also got to spend some time playing with his cousins. My dad brought out his Fresnel lens which got all the kids interested. I was glad we didn't burn down the place.
All in all, a successful trip. Amazing to be in such a beautiful place so completely surrounded by the city.
