Michael was able to join us for our last week in Canada. Sadly, he spent the first couple of days tied up with work. At least he had a window office with a killer view. Once he wrapped things up with work we headed outside for a few adventures.
Tubing Down Cowichan River
Our first adventure took us to Cowichan River.
It's a little more inhabited than the Stamp river we tubed down last time, but it was still a nice relaxing two hour ride.
And this river had a business that provided tubes and a ride back, so that was a plus.
After a day of being baby free, we decided it was only fair to take Thomas out on an adventure.
We hiked to a train trestle in Goldstream Park
It wasn't too bad of a hike, but we were reminded of just how out of shape we are. It made us feel better when on our way back we saw other people hiking up that were more out of breath that we were.
Blackberries. Blackberries. Blackberries.
Usually we are too early for blackberry season, but since we came a little later this year we were just in time. Blackberries grow like a weed in Victoria. Seriously, they are along all the sides of the roads and everywhere. I loved being able to go out every morning and spend five minutes picking a bucket of nice fresh blackberries for cereal, oatmeal, ice cream, muffins, pie, or whatever else caught our fancy. Oh how I miss delicious blackberries.
Downtown
We went downtown for a walk around the wharf. We were walking past all of the buskers when Michael got snagged by this guy. He was alright, but he made his performance drag on way longer than necessary. He must have known we weren't patient people and took Michael to prevent us from leaving.
After the wharf we went to the park to fly some kites. We spent forever running back and forth across this field before we got smart enough to move to a better location.
We were able to get it in the air after that. I wonder if it would have felt less rewarding to get it in the air if we hadn't just spent 30 minutes running back and forth across a field? As it was, it felt pretty good to make that thing fly.
Thomas had a good time playing in the water on one of our hikes.
And of course, Michael's shoulders are always a favorite.
And it just wouldn't be a Canada trip without the traditional animal slaughter...
(All animals killed led very full, happy, spoiled, lives)
The poor chickens next to the death bucket.
Michael was in charge of the throat cutting.
Next phase is a quick dip in boiling water to help with the feather removal
Feather removal
My murderous husband
The whole production
The final product
Wow, it's like a piece of heaven (minus the throat cutting . . . gulp!)
