Our first story comes only minutes after arriving home to our apartment. I had been worried about leaving Lily for so long and was really excited to see her, but when we got home this is all we found.
A warning perhaps?
Now that all the fun of traveling and the craziness of school was over, it was time for me to look for a job. The Lord really outdid himself this time. After searching endlessly through all of the classifieds, I chose a couple places that I thought I might have a chance and faxed some resumes. The following day I found an ad on a random sight for the animal hospital right down the road where I already take Lily. I had secretly hoped they were hiring but didn't see a listing for them on any of the major websites. It was only by chance (blessing #1) that I found their three-sentence ad. I went to drop off a resume and was told it would be about 2-3 weeks before call-backs. You can imagine my surprise when they called me back the next day for an interview (blessing #2). The interview went ok and I was told they wouldn't be making a decision for another 2-3 weeks. I know it was probably silly to believe that considering how fast they called back the first time, but for some reason I decided to book a trip to Canada for the next week and a half since Michael was going to be in Taiwan and I wasn't sure how long it would be before I would be able to travel again if I got the job. Well, they called back a couple days later saying I got the job (blessing #3)
Ooops.
I had just gotten my dream job and now I had to tell them about my trip to Canada along with another trip after that to Oakley, Idaho for a McPhie family reunion. This wasn't looking good. I was completely prepared to cancel my trip to Canada but I definitely wanted to go to the family reunion. I was told to come in the next day and so I showed up thinking I was just there to sign some paperwork and work out the details. When I got there the boss was super cool about everything. He asked if I wanted to start working that day (which I obviously did) and then told me I could go on all my trips and just continue after I got back (blessing #4). Seriously, my whole situation couldn't have worked out any better. I got a job! It's at a hospital that is family owned with an honest veterinarian. Said veterinarian is pretty much the best boss in the world. I still got to go to Canada and the family reunion. And the people I work with are awesome. What an amazing blessing!
Oh, I just realized I didn't even say what it is that I do. I am a veterinary assistant. This includes preparing animals for surgery, drawing blood, caring for the animals while they are in the hospital, helping the doctor during surgery, and anything and everything in between. Let's just say I deal with a lot of blood, urine, feces and other disgusting bodily fluids, but I also get to deal with this...
and these...
and help fix this...
and do a dental on this...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job!
After working for two days (and feeling like I would never be able to remember all of the things I was learning), I got to take a break and visit my family in Canada. Remember all that rototilling I did back in April?

I was able to return and enjoy the fruits (well technically vegetables) of my labour.

It really is my favorite time of year. Sadly I was a couple weeks off of raspberry season but that would have been asking a little much considering.
Even though my job in the garden was done there was still more work to be done elsewhere, as is always the case when you live on a farm. This time around was hay season, which meant driving around to farmer's fields and buckin' bails.

My dad likes to really make sure the truck is at full capacity. We may have lost a bail or two on the drive home....
After spending all that time gathering and loading all the bails, you come home only to unload them again.
At least I also had this to come home to...
Another fabulous part of my trip, aside from getting to see all of my family, was riding the horse my mother had gotten.s you can see, I was too lazy to get out the saddle.
Normally I wouldn't wear a helmet, but I got to take some English lessons at a place nearby and helmets were required. It was a lot of fun. I had never really taken horseback riding lessons before, I usually just got on the horse and did whatever. I even got to learn how to jump. It was amazing!
And of course, I got to see my friend Rosie.
Yet another successful trip to the homeland.
(Michael) Alright, I guess it's my turn. In July we went up to Idaho for the Whiteley Family Reunion.
Too many fun memories to cover everything, so I'll summarize....
I could go on, but you get the idea. It was especially nice to have some time to spend with my Cramer cousins and all of their kids.

-Lots of driving through fields and trying to determine if the plants were potatoes or sugar cane
-The first time we got into Burley and saw all of its rural charm (like the Shon Hing Chinese Restaurant and the giant Union Seed silos)
-Rodeo fun where the poor nephews and nieces got more than they bargained for (battle-of-honor wounds...we admired their bravery)
-Since it was so hot, we must have tried all the different combinations of Jack in the Box smoothies (strawberry-banana, banana-mango, etc.)
-Playing Marco Pollo, shark-in-the-water, and chicken fights in the pool (fitting everyone in the hot tub)
-Hiking out to the rock house where my grandmother lived
-Enjoying our comfortable bed during the 10k run, and arriving to see my dad racing to beat the little girl to the finish line
-Visit to a local diary farm with a live birth (happy to see the poor cow triumph after the painful process, sad to hear Amanda's commentary that the new calf would most likely be killed since it was a male...and therefore useless)
-Walking through the Oakley museum
-The parade
-Impromptu evening dip in the warm springs
-My nephew Joseph's baptism and niece Anne's baby blessing
-Family reunion dinner and tour of the old homestead
I could go on, but you get the idea. It was especially nice to have some time to spend with my Cramer cousins and all of their kids.
