(Michael) Since Amanda is going to be abandoning me for three weeks soon to go up to see her parents, I've been trying to make sure I get as much one on one time as I can.
First off we had a secret shop to a place called Pinot Palette. I guess these wine + painting classes are quite trendy these day, and you know us, we are all about the latest fads. Actually in any of these classy settings we pretty much just have one simple goal...and that is not to spill anything.
Although we didn't end up spilling anything, we did manage to mix up the start time and arrive 20 minutes late. It was quite the hectic start because we had already missed a good portion of the painting instruction and the instructor was flying ("ok now everyone add yellow to the edges...now mix it in...okay now add purple...now blend it in"). This led to a vicious cycle of missing the next instructions because we were always a step behind. Luckily we didn't get any push back on switching out the wine for Sprite...not that we had any time to drink it. At one point they had a break and we were able to make some headway.
The second half was a lot more relaxing because the pace slowed down significantly. We were able to chat a little with the couple from Arizona across from us as well as help each other out with some mistakes we had made earlier on. The instructor kept walk around and would only make comments on Amanda's painting. They were the cheesy kind of compliments from someone you could tell was trying very hard to give some authentic praise ("oh wow, I looooove how circular your sun is"). Anyway, we had a good time and enjoyed doing something new and fun. I'm not quite sure what we do with two of these paintings though.
It was also our five year anniversary last month, so I took Amanda on a date to dinner and a movie. Dinner was at a cute Italian place close to our house that got good reviews. It looked sort of trashy from the outside, but was pretty festive inside.
To let Amanda know what movie we were going to see, I put a well-placed hint inside her flowers that morning.
She was very excited to see Jurassic World...seriously. Amanda has a love/hate relationship with raptors that goes back a long time. I know that using pictures of raptors for Halloween, April Fools, or any prank is strictly forbidden. But with the release of this movie, I knew that this would be my one appropriate chance of doing something like this. And what could be more romantic than dinosaurs tearing apart an amusement park?
