Boston Trip

(Michael) We had a great time going out to visit my sister in Boston for Thanksgiving.  Our first adventure began as soon as we got off the plane.  

With our powers combined, we were able to successfully navigate the blue, green, and red subway lines to get to Alewife...does that make anyone else think of Sound of Music?


For our second adventure we went to the Plymouth Plantation.

Okay, so look at the picture above with Joseph and Charles.  This was the first thing we saw as we entered the Plymouth Plantation.  Do you get what it is?  It's the Moo-flower (we almost missed it since the title was on a small plaque around the back).  I have to give these guys credit, it takes some guts to use such a large joke sculpture and to display it so prominently.


We both thought the plantation was really neat!  It was definitely the most festive Thanksgiving thing I have ever done.  There was a native american...oops, I mean native people village....

While we were there we learned that the act of storing food was a sign of European greediness and that the house above is called a Wetu...but the best part was that Amanda was able to reconnect with her first nation roots.


They also had a quaint pilgrim village with a large guard tower.

Lots of fun things to see and the kids especially enjoyed trying to befriend some of the local chickens.

In addition to the plantation, we got to go on the Mayflower II, a full-sized replica of the original.  We couldn't believe how small it was.

(Michael) Apart from that excursion, we had a really fun trip spending time with the nephews and late nights with Elizabeth and Shon.  They hosted a particularly delicious Thanksgiving feast with a BRINED turkey.  The night before we were all having so much fun cooking, we hardly realized that it was 3am.


We were in charge of desserts. 

So all in all, a pretty fine Thanksgiving trip in Boston.  We will have to make sure we return soon.

It was really nice to finally "meet" and spend time with Michael's sister and her family. What a great bunch of boys. Lots of fun was had all around whether it was in their gigantic basement playing soccer and making "iPads," in the car during rush hour listening to stories, or sitting around the table talking about hypnobirthing and Alton Brown cooking techniques. It couldn't have been a better Thanksgiving.
