Camping

(Michael) A few weeks ago we went camping with a few of our good friends.  I was definitely glad to break away from studying for the GMAT and working on extra assignments for my job.

We enjoyed some delicious tin foil dinners (actually cooked in a fire and not carbequed) and a slightly overcooked dutch oven peach cobbler.  I personally feel that the burnt flavor only adds to the whole camping ambiance.

Jimmy Bush was in full insect hunting mode and captured a beetle-like creature that made the most un-beetle like screeches.  This, however, was not our only run-in with creepy insects as Amanda found a large black widow feasting on a grasshopper in the bathroom.  [Interesting fact: this was the second black widow she has seen this summer since I tried to convince her that black widows are not common in San Diego]

Apart from that, we had an enjoyable night playing games and sitting around the fire (something I enjoy more now since it seems like campfires are prohibited at more and more campgrounds these days).

We love our tent that Robert and Megan got us for our wedding present.  It has got to be the easiest tent I have ever had to set up, and we are so very grateful that the bag is large enough so you don't have to spend a half hour trying to cram the thing back in. (Amanda) And it's adorable!

It was the warmest night of camping I have ever had...we didn't even need our sleeping bags.  I was ok with that though after I remembered our recent snow camping adventure.

The next day we spent some time at the lake where some of the other people in our group decided to fish.  They caught a few fish (and dealt with them in a humane manner), but we were mostly interested in getting a feisty crawdad moving around the rocks.

After that we visited some of the old town shops in Julian and headed back home.  A big thanks to Allison for organizing all of it, we know that there is a lot more work involved with these things than it seems.
