My parents response to our joining a softball team - "Why? You were never very good at ball"
The McPhie response to Michael joining a softball league - "Whaaaa?"
Not a lot of confidence to start out with, but yes, Michael and I joined a community softball team (we had a couple friends who roped us in). They assured us it was an amateur league, but it actually turned out to be far from that. However, we are proud to report that despite the inevitable embarrassment, we both made runs. Ok, so maybe we both only made one run each, but that just happens to be our individual records. It's nice when you start out with nothing, because everything becomes a new record :)
Please forgive the blurry pics, it was dark and the lighting was bad.
Michael hitting the ball, huzzah!
I played second base and Michael played catcher/outfield.
We both had our moments of glory and shame.
I think the saddest thing is that I still don't understand some of the rules,
but co-ed softball rules are different so I don't feel too bad.
We actually did a lot better than expected. We didn't strike out as often as we thought we would, and we made it on base at least 50% of the time. I will not give the stats on how many of those were from walks, but let's just say we need to work on our sprinting for next season.
